Family Medical Associates
"We have worked as medical practitioners for 24 years and we know that we have a positive influence on the patients we serve. Because we are concerned about not only the individual health of each patient, but also the health of the entire nation, we intend to make the most of our influential positions." Dr. Christine Hibbard and Dr. David Hibbard Medical practitioners throughout Boulder, Colorado are getting involved in getting out the vote this year by promoting voter registration to their staff and patients. Voter registration forms are placed in upright easily seen holders on counter tops of each of the exam rooms in their medical building as well as on waiting room tables. Upon leaving appointments, patients are asked "Are you registered to vote?" If not, patients are given registration forms. Doctors are sending letters out to all physicians associated with several area community hospitals, inviting them to participate by placing voter registration forms in their waiting and exam rooms. The response has been overwhelmingly positive and they can't keep up with the demand. Office employees are enthusiastic about having these forms available to their patients. Taking outreach one step further, the physicians received permission from the administration of local community hospitals to provide new voter registration displays in their waiting rooms. The Boulder, Colorado physicians participating in the voter registration campaigns believe that all healthcare providers, including physicians, psychotherapists, psychologists, chiropractors, acupuncturists, physical therapists and nutritionists can get involved in this type of project and that it will be well received by staff and patients. |
