Costco
Vote In Bulk
National Campaign

"It's just good business." Jim Sinegal, President and CEO

Costco Wholesale Corporation employs more than 83,000 potential voters in the United States. The company's non-partisan campaign encouraging employees to register and vote is as simple and direct as its no frills business model. The "Vote in Bulk" project is being promoted exclusively through existing communication channels. This method provides two important advantages. First, it keeps the administrative costs of the project low, which is a basic and intrinsic Costco operating philosophy. Secondly, more employees can be reached more easily by making the program integral to standard communications practices. Delivering and receiving the message requires no special effort on anyone's part.

A special page on Costco's Intranet can be accessed from an eye-catching banner on the site's home page, where employees will find links to voter registration services in each of the 36 states in which the company does business. Banners and advertisements in Costco Today, the company's employee magazine, will reach virtually all employees in the months of September and October, as will a straightforward flyer attached to payroll checks early in October. Additionally, posters promoting voter registration will be displayed in break rooms throughout the company, and individual Costco locations will offer on-site registration services to employees.

Costco is justifiably proud of its record in the treatment of its employees, and their value as individuals is critical to the company's success. In much the same way, the power of individuals is essential to the democratic process. Supporting that process serves the interests of all Americans. As Costco President and CEO Jim Sinegal would say, "It's just good business."
